A Clown Really Can Be Your Friend
One of my best friends was performing at the Calgary Stampede last week. When it was finished he came by for a visit. One thing about being an entertainer… we have some interesting friends.
Our friendship started 10 years ago I was performing at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair in Brandon Manitoba, about an hour outside Winnipeg. I was on stage doing my hypnosis show – hypnotizing about 20 people to be race car drivers.
Stage right (where the audience couldn’t see him) was Doo Doo The International Clown. Doo Doo is the clown from Adam Sandler’s movie Billy Madison. He’s also the hero clown that saved women from a crazed maniac on a street in Toronto. You can see a clip from TV here:

Doo Doo had been Clowning at that Winter Fair for over 20 years and he was watching my hypnosis show. All my volunteers on stage grew up going to the fair – watching him do his magic and getting balloon animals – all that good clown stuff!
When you meet Doo Doo – you just love him. And the people on stage loved him too.
So, if you were on stage you could see him sitting on a chair watching the show stage right – in the audience, you couldn’t see him at all – they had no idea he was there.
My hypnotic volunteers were racing their cars, and I said, “You’re not in first place like you should be… You’re in second place – and right beside you, is your arch rival – your nemesis – you hate that guy and he hates you!
Look to your right! There he is – in his Clown Car racing faster than you… Doo Doo!
And they all look over and see the Clown they love – except now they hate him…
The audience can’t see him sitting there but my volunteers are seeing the Clown in real life!
And I said, “You hate that Clown! Shake your fist at him!”
They all got angry and shook their fists.
One of the volunteers Melissa – had grown up with Doo Doo – and for the last couple years helped him make Balloon animals for the kids. She did more than shake her fist.
According to Doo Doo, she was normally very proper and helpful with all the kids… and she yelled extremely specific swear words and gave him the middle finger.
The crowd loved it!
Doo Doo sat there shocked and said, “I can’t believe she did that! How could she be so opposite to her normal personality?”
With a wink I said, “Sometimes Clowns get abused don’t they!”
We’ve been great friends ever since.
